BE INSPIRED | COLOUR PAIRINGS!

The Be Inspired Design Team is hopping today, and our theme this month is "Colour Pairings"! I can’t wait to see the creative ideas the rest of the team has come up with. Make sure to hop around and check out all the inspiring projects shared by this talented group.

Pretty in Pink & Poppy Parade - An Unexpected Colour Pairing That Works

Look how good these two colours go together! Pretty in Pink and Poppy Parade might not seem like an obvious pairing at first glance, but together they create a look that is bold, fresh, and surprisingly harmonious.

Pink and red are often thought of as colours that clash or compete, yet they sit closely together on the colour wheel and work well together. But when you choose the right shade, these two colours complement each other beautifully.

Pretty in Pink brings a softness and lightness to the design, while Poppy Parade adds confidence, energy, and impact. The softer pink tones temper the intensity of the red, and the red grounds the pink so it doesn’t feel overly sweet. Together, they strike a lovely balance.

To create the background, I used masking paper around the edges of the card front. I then blended Pretty in Pink ink, building up the colour gradually for a soft, diffused look. The masking allowed the blended background to really stand out while keeping the white space intact. I stamped the images in Poppy Parade to add contrast and impact, then finished the design by adding the small dots with Stampin’ Blends for a subtle touch of texture and detail.

Using plenty of white space helps keep the combination feeling clean and modern, allowing the colours to shine without overwhelming the design. The imagery from the Shell Collecting Stamp Set also plays an important role here, letting the colours highlight the details rather than dominate them. It’s a wonderful reminder that stepping outside our usual colour comfort zone can lead to some of the most eye-catching results.

If pink and red is a combination you’ve ever hesitated to try, I hope this project encourages you to give it a go. Thanks so much for hopping along with us today — I can’t wait for you to see the next colour pairing in the hop!

Next up is my lovely and inspirational friend Annette Ball. I'm looking forward to seeing what gorgeous creation Annette has to share with us.
